The Arab Spring has certainly brought a lot of attention to the area. I’m glad that there are films being shown about what it is like to live in this tumultuous time of cultural change. Whenever I see coverage about the region, I think, what steps do I need to take to get there? How can I save money for airfare, international travel insurance , and lodging? Are there exchange study opportunities in this region? These films offer so much in the way of information, but there is something to be said for actually setting feet on the ground and learning about an area first hand.

This is a great event. The festival seeks to showcase the work of Arab filmmakers who this year were able to draw on the momentous political changes in their own countries for artistic inspiration. I was especially excited to see “Rouge Parole,” set in the tumult of revolutionary Tunisia, which charts the expulsion of its president and the country’s first steps toward democracy. I read so many articles found by byfiles search about this movie. it is so pleasant that the selection of documentaries not only provides for reflection on political change, but also offers a number of films that look into private worlds and subtler aspects of the Middle Eastern experience that are not always evident to political observers.
