Crushing StonesExperimental
(2010) Crushing Stones represents 3 installations and performances: "CRUSHING STONES” Through photography, body art and live performance, Crushing Stones recreates the emotions, imagery and atmosphere of a “stoning” – contrasting the experience of the subject and the spectators. The exhibition transposes photography and painted models, creating a unique sensory experience while a woman’s voice sets the chilling scene. “VEIL IS OBLIGATORY” This exhibition explores the effect the veil has on how we perceive ourselves and in masking the distinctive traits used to categorize man or woman, young or old, blonde, brown, red, yellow or green. Veil is Obligatory is based on a childhood memory from nearly thirty years ago and incorporates sights, sounds and smells from that era. It is about a journey back home, a rediscovery. The exhibition possesses a lightness and curiosity that are uniquely female and questions the matter of obligation. It explores veiled women, women who reveal their body and women joined by the simplicity of a daily action. The images ask the question - “Do non-respectable body parts exist?” “ETERNITY WOMAN” A journey from black-and-white through full color following the outlines of a female body and the environment in which it exists. Eternity Woman embraces femininity and centers on the hieroglyph of Eternity. This multi-media exhibition features a dance performance interpreting and blending the themes and images presented through a series of photographs.

Although when first watching it, I didn’t feel any effect whatsoever, then I read the comments and I watched it again, knowing what I was supposed to be seeing and feeling it was easier to sympathize with but not relate to. From the comments (although I don’t know the age of each person, obviusly) I can guess that most of the people who felt a strong connection to this film and those who it had a powerful impact on are from an older era when women weren’t as free as today. Those who didn’t get much from it, like Nina and I, are perhaps younger. Because it seems obvious that this film touched a nerve in most of you right away, without having to delve deep, whereas i had to concentrate to get the message of the film and I still don’t completely feel it…. I think that perhaps for a younger generation this wouldn’t mean much. but I still enjoyed it!!

I really liked, both on aesthetic and the ethical. non-verbal language, I think, did not need words because the gestures, the unspoken, are so explicit enough in itself. and it will end, not to spoil.
my compliments, Negin,

Unusual, very impressive: the colours and b/w play a wonderful interconnection showing the difference between limited and unlimited women life. The artist, Negin Vaziri, is successfull in transittimg women’semotions..
Bravo!

I saw this life! It was so powerful! A lot of women started to cry! It was amazing that a performance without any dialog could express itself so amazingly. I could see myself, my mom, my best friend, almost every women in this story! Our colorful dreams which we are living with it everyday and the black covered profile on the other side! In most of the societies all over the world the women are facing this contrariety! Great Job Negin!

I really loved the short movie: the theme is about women seclusion and obligation thru the veil and laws. I realy loved the figure of the woman in chador that puts a finger in her mouth just to make her voice different for men that do not belong to the family…the image really takes us back to the old times in Iran! The use of colour by the artist in Eternity Woman gave me the same feeling I had when living in Iran iwhere no colours where seen except for balck and white. Colours were hope and life. I locve it

I don’t know where to start. What is this movie about? It talked about women’s freedom, and being able to be free of the veil but what does rolling around naked prove?
There was no story. I did not sympathize with the woman like I thought I would. I wanted dialog, I wanted to feel what she might be feeling but I felt nothing.
The description of the movie was very detailed but it didn’t make sense.
