How She Got Here.
Claudia Sheinbaum is a 61-year-old former Mayor of Mexico City and an energy scientist. Her Mayoral seat paved the way to her presidency as this position is seen as one of the most influential political offices in the country. She spent years at a renowned research lab in California, utilizing her doctoral degree in energy engineering to study Mexican energy consumption. This led her to become a climate change expert, which eventually earned her the position of Secretary of the Environment for Mexico City while Andrés Manuel López Obrador was Mayor of the city.
