Borders Synopsis
Borders gives a personal and intimate insight into the hushed-up ‘virginity tests’ that women migrants were subjected to in the 1970s, as reported by The Guardian in 2011.
Borders was an official selection of the 2017 WVN Online Film Festival and was the recipient of the Best Experimental Film award.

About the Filmmaker
Since completing an MA in Documentary Practice at the University of Bristol, Elizabeth Mizon has produced and directed documentary shorts both independently and on commission, including A Well Informed Optimist, awarded best film at the One World Short Film Festival. She produced the experimental art film, The Film That Buys the Cinema, for the Cube Cinema in Bristol, an official selection for the 2014 BFI London Film Festival, and her first feature documentary The Fourth Estate in 2015, before recently moving into narrative fiction with Borders which was quickly selected for the 2016 London Short Film Festival.
Elizabeth is also a writer and playwright, and recently won a competition to have her first short play performed in her home city of Bristol. She hopes to go on to make features after continuing to work on various creative projects, including her co-directorship of the Bristol Radical Film Festival and co-directorship of media co-operative, The Bristol Cable.
