Synopsis

Theater group Tehrik-e-Niswan challenges assumptions around education, forced marriages, and honor killings in Pakistan. Led by Sheema Kirmani, the theater group hopes to inspire engagement in women’s equal rights.

I…Am A Woman was an official selection of the 2011 WVN Online Film Festival.

About the Filmmaker

Sheherzad Kaleem is a director, producer, editor and camerawoman. She specializes in documentary and factual productions. She won the prestigious Gracie Allen Award for her short documentary ‘I…am a woman’ in New York. Trained at New York University and then later at the Documentary Filmmakers’ Group in London, her work has taken her to Pakistan, Ghana, United Kingdom and the USA. She has produced and directed films for several renowned charities and organizations in the U.K. She is currently based in Dubai, where she is working on independent documentary projects.
