Islak Synopsis

“Islak,” a 10-minute film by Zümrüt Çavuşoğlu, narrates the story of a university student in Turkey who is barred from entering her university because she wears a headscarf, shedding light on issues of religious expression and access to education.

 

 

About the Filmmakers

Born in 1982, Istanbul. She studied Sociology at Boğaziçi University and Women’s Studies Department at Utrecht University. She worked as art director in various projects. Apart from her main field of sociology at Boğaziçi University, she completed the Film Certificate program run jointly by the Department of English Language and Literature and Mithat Alam Film Center. As part of this certificate, she took script and production lessons from Derviş Zaim.
