When the Time Comes Synopsis

Shot among the Samburu semi-nomadic tribe of Kenya, When The Time Comes portrays the people’s relationship to the ancestral and controversial practice that is female circumcision (Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting), and highlights the inter-generational debate that is taking place in their communities, allowing girls and women to fight for their rights, with the support of many men.

When the Time Comes was an official selection of the 2017 WVN Online Film Festival.

About the Filmmaker

Charles is an award-winning filmmaker based in Brooklyn, NY. Born in 1980, Charles graduated in 2003 at the EICAR Film school in Paris where he then worked as an assistant director, camera operator, and editor on documentary films on sport and music thematics and later, architecture.

In 2009, Charles moves to New York City where he focuses his work on social issues and human rights, working as a consultant for many NGOs or IGOs, such as UNICEF and The World Bank, which brought him to Kenya, Haiti, Nepal, India, Poland, and Colombia. In 2014, his FGM awareness campaign film, When The Time Comes, won “Best Short Documentary” and “Special Jury Prize” at the Social Impact Media Awards.
