22-year-old Mahsa Amini was arrested in Tehran for “improperly” wearing her hijab. She was placed in detention where she was beaten into a coma and died three days later on September 16th, 2022. Since then, an uprising of protests have taken place in solidarity with Mahsa Amini.

She Was Beaten Into a Coma.
The Iranian government insisted that Amini died from a heart attack, but reports indicate she died from a skull fracture due to heavy blows to the head.
Iranian Women Have Since Burned Hijabs.
Iranian women are burning hijabs and cutting their hair in public as a demonstration to Iran’s government that women do not belong to them, they belong to themselves.

Iran shut off the internet in parts of Tehran and Kurdistan and blocked social media platforms as a way to limit protests.
